I’ve always loved going to the beach! When I lived in New Hampshire, it would be such a planned ordeal because it was an hour away. My girlfriends and I would scope out the weather, pack our bags and coolers the night before and make sure we were up early and on our way!
Now that I live in South Florida and only a couple of miles away, going to the beach is a totally different experience! Sometimes I’m even lucky enough to take a ferry a few hours east for a Bahamian beach day (where these pictures were taken!) I only pack a beach bag with a few essentials- I’ve learned from experience that less is more (I hardly ever use everything I bring, oops!)
I try to be practical when it comes to choosing a beach bag- I want something that is easy to carry and comfortable on my shoulders (in case I get a little burned leaving the beach), but it also has to be visually appealing. I absolutely LOVE this multi-colored straw beach tote from J.Jill. I don’t typically shop here, in fact this might be the only thing I own, but I passed it in a window and had to check it out. It’s currently on sale and under $30, which makes it even better!
I like to have my beach cover-ups match my bathing suit, and this black, open-back cover-up c/o The Phoenix Boutique is perfect. It’s light and breathable even when the sun is beating down. I also love that it helps show off the detail of my bathing suit top from Victoria’s Secret Swim (similar here). I paired the outfit with my black jelly crossover sandals from Aldo (last season, similar here). The tank top is from Express– right now it’s on sale and an additional 30% off!
Here’s a list of the rest of my beach day essentials:
Towel– I am obsessed with this one from Nordstrom, super light and dries quickly!
Water Bottle– have you guys tried out Swell water bottles? It keeps your beverage cold (or warm) for 10+ hours! There’s a variety of skins, but I stuck with basic white.
Magazines, or a good book– I love bringing magazines because they’re disposable. Most of my books are on my iPad and I don’t want to risk dropping it or getting sand in it. I’m looking for new books, would love your suggestions!
Sunscreen– On my face I either use Kiehl’s BB Cream with 50 SPF or Aveeno 30 SPF. The Kiehl’s is pretty thick and is tinted (I use shade Medium), and Aveeno is much lighter. Both do a great job of keeping my face protected and break-out free. To avoid greasy hands at the beach, I use Banana Boat’s Dry Oil Spray – it’s easy to use and protects my skin well.
